Happy New Year Everyone. I am back from a long near 4 week vacation and my blog will be more regular. I will post the vacation details soon.
I arrived in town on Sunday night after a 24 hr flight after a reschedule. I still wanted to play Monday Tennis as I have been out of any sports action for 4+ weeks and I wanted to quickly get back to playing ways. I didn’t get any sleep on Sunday night and tiredly worked on Monday.
Fully tired, Jet lagged (10.5 hr time zone difference) compounded with Lack of fitness/match practice, I didn’t have any illusions of making a statement with my game. As expected I managed to win only 4 games in total. This is the lowest number since I started playing in the ladder. I have no excuses really. I wanted to play and I did. Opponents were more consistent and I often over hit my shots. I also tried out 2 different racquets from other players before finally sticking with mine. Warren and Bob beat me 6-1 before Frank finished me off with 5-2. There were about 4 games where I was 40-0 up but didn’t manage to close them. I wasn’t in my rhythm and my lack of practice showed up. Towards the end I started feeling better and my serve started clicking in and I got some first serves in. I had glimpses of my Inside-In forehand winners.
The only positive I will take credit for—all the points I won are clean winners and not due to an unforced error from an opponent. Other good thing is this Tennis tired me out enough and I had a good nights sleep—very useful when once is jetlagged and trying to quickly adjust to the new time zone.
This score line will ensure that I will start playing at the bottom of the 0830 ladder from next week. I am only planning on being in the ladder for couple more weeks. I will break from ladder in March and wait for warm weather in April for Outdoor tennis. My goals for these few ladder matches are to basically improve my shot selection and get back to winning ways.
I will have different plan/goals for Outdoor tennis 2008 season. I will keep you posted.
